How your Print Calendar Is Made
When you create a calendar with Contrado, we print your designs onto silky art paper which is 160 gsm thick. We use a permanent printing technique which produces crystal clear details, showing even fine lines with incredible accuracy. Colours are strong and rich, and your entire piece is depicted beautifully. You can also add a cover using a single design or multiple images, and add a title. Your custom calendar is then backed with white card, which is strong, non-bendable and 2.5 mm thick, and it is all bound together by a spiral wire binder which is also in white.
Design Tips
Custom calendar printing comes in two sizes, either A4 or A3 so you can tailor it wither to the space that you have, or the designs that you wish to use. Make your own calendar using your favourite pieces as a great way to offer multiple designs in one simple package. You can even design the cover separately, using a combination of different designs, or one larger design.
When you create a calendar you have the option of an additional line of text under each image, you can give the title of the work, or other information such as which formats that piece is available in, or even when it was made. If you are a portrait photographer, you can use this space to name your models. If you photograph or paint landscapes you cold say where the image was inspired from, or is located. This space is for you to use exactly as you wish, and the possibilities are endless.
How does this product enhance my...
Home
Keep up to date with everything that is happening - and do it in style - with your personalised print calendar. Use designs that complement or contrast the room in which you intend to hang your custom calendar, and have a functional and stylish way to display your designs, artwork or illustrations.
Business
Design a custom calendar for a new, interesting way to promote your business. Feature a different design for each month, and another piece entirely for the cover. Add text under each image to promote a different part of your business every month.
Design Brand
Design your own calendar for a unique way to get your work noticed. Use as a catalogue style portfolio, by adding your design, with a line of text underneath stating "also available as a canvas/cushion/wallpaper" etc, so that people can decide which design suits their decor by actually trialling each one for a month at a time.
Print Guideline
-
What's the best resolution to print in?
We print at 200dpi, which is a good combination of quality and file weight. Ideally, your image should be scaled to 100% at 200dpi, this means that no resizing of your file occurs stopping any interpolation.
-
Should I save my file as a TIFF or JPEG?
For multi-coloured or very detailed files we recommend using a tiff format, but they must be flattened. For simple colours and low detail files, a jpeg is fine.
-
Which colour model should I choose? RGB or CMYK?
We advise providing images in the RGB colour space. Specifically using the sRGB image profile, to achieve best colour results. What does this mean? In your editing software choose RGB as the working space, and assign the image profile as sRGB (full name sRGB IEC61966-2.1)
-
What does GSM mean?
Grams per Square Meter (GSM) is an international standard for measuring the weight of paper or fabric. GSM uses the weight of a square meter (1000 x 1000mm) as an indication of the weight and thickness of a given fabric. We class 20-100gsm as light (summer fabrics, gauzes and fine silks), 101-249 gsm as medium (most clothing fabrics) and 250+ gsm as heavy (upholstery fabrics, and other specialist fabrics).
-
What are bleed areas?
When designing your product, it’s best to make sure that your image is slightly larger than needed. In printing, the extra printed image is referred to as a “Bleed Area” or margin, and it is removed from the finished piece. A bleed area acts as a buffer for slight inconsistencies in the manufacturing process. however, it’s important to fill your bleed areas completely, or you may end up with white, unprinted strips along the edge of your finished product.
-
Do you print on garments a customer supplies?
Unfortunately not. All our garments are printed on flat fabric and sewn into finished products, which gives a better-finished result and all-over print. We test meticulously so that we know what gets the best results on our fabrics, and our facilities cater perfectly to them. We do however print sublimation paper to order, so if you have access to a heat press you can press your fabrics or flat garments easily.
-
Can you Align a Pattern or design across panels of a garment?
We always strive for the greatest accuracy when printing and constructing your garments. However, due to unavoidable stretch or movement of the fabric during the stitching process, we cannot guarantee perfect pattern registration across garment seams. We are generally accurate within 2-3mm, which is close enough for most patterns but may show slight issues with detailed geometric patterns.
-
Can I print my own Labels?
Most of our garments now come with printable label space for you to add your own company information and branding! If you would like to sew in your own labels, we also offer Printed Fabric Labels here.
-
How is your fabric printing eco-friendly?
With environmental consciousness in mind, our fabrics are all printed using completely water-based inks. This means no chemicals or solvents are used. Our heat fixing procedure fixes the colours and prints, avoiding the downsides of steaming, such as excess or contaminated water returning into the waste system. We have one facility where we conduct all the printing, production and fulfilment.
Why start on a different month?
The ability to choose your starting month allows you much more versatility with your print calendar. You can tailor the calendar to your audience using the financial year, calendar year or even the academic year. If you are holding an event in May, you can start the calendar from June, ensuring your customers get the most out of this product.
Does the 3 for 2 only count for the same designs?
No, you can create your own calendar three different times, and you can even change the sizes between the offered A3 and A4. As long as it is all processed within the same transaction, on of your calendars will be free. If you add two calendars to your basket you will be notified that you are eligible for a deal. Please note the cheapest calendar will be free.
How do I fix the calendar to the wall?
When you design your own calendar, we print your design onto the respective pages. We then back this with a 2.5 mm thick non-bendy board and bind it with a white metal spiral wire. This spiral wire has a traditional calendar hanging hook in the centre which can be used to hang your calendar printing onto a picture hook, nail or screw.
